Eight & Sand

EIGHT AND SAND: A TERM USED TO WISH TRAIN CREWS WELL. COMES FROM ‘NOTCH 8’—THE HIGHEST POWER SETTING OF MODERN LOCOMOTIVE THROTTLES—AND HOW SAND IS APPLIED TO PREVENT WHEELS FROM SLIPPING.

Nike Skateboarding engaged Monster Children to create authentic skate content showcasing team riders Nick Boserio and Daryl Angel. The result was Eight & Sand, a multimedia content project, that follows the two as they explore the West Coast of USA. Passing through three states and five major cities on Amtrak, the film documents the West Coast through the eyes of two of skateboarding’s finest.

Filmed entirely on Kodak 16mm, the film was distributed through Monster Children, Nike SB Networks and key skateboarding publications. Editorial and social content supported the film’s release and a feature in Monster Children Issue 45 extended the project into print media. Directed by Riley Blakeway and Photography by Andrew Peters.
